“So Happy Together” fits the story of Daphnis and Chloe, because both show an optimistic and innocent form of love. Both the song and the pastoral poem emphasize the happiness that true love can provide.

Musonius Rufus claims that it is the union between a man and woman that leads to the procreation of children, which is one of the ultimate goals of marriage. He claims that a strong marriage and family will lead to a strong home and city. The Red Hot Chili Pepper’s song “Hard to Concentrate” is a love song written by Anthony Kiedis, and is ultimately a marriage proposal. He tells the woman he wants her to become part of his family so they become one. Kiedis describes all of the things a marriage should be according to Musonius Rufus.

The artist of this song cannot sleep at night and is constantly thinking about his lover who is away. Pliny also explains that he cannot sleep at night because he misses his wife, Calpurnia, so much. Pliny pases his house and visits his wife’s empty room, similarly you receive a feeling of restlessness in this song. Also, both Pliny and this artist are haunted by their lover’s image in their absence.

In this song, the artist sings about how her husband cheated on her and how she gets revenge on him. While less extreme than Medea’s, her reaction carries a lot of the same emotions as Medea’s.

This song is all about how the singer misses being home with his love and all he wants to do is get back to her. I think that this represents how Odysseus feels for Penelope, because he’s been gone for 20 years and longs to be reunited with his wife.

This song is similar to the Theognis passage because both deal with non-reciprocal love (or at least the thought of it in Theognis). This song however puts it through the voice of the Beloved instead of the Lover. The sentiments expressed in the song would be logical responses to Theognis’ request that his Beloved either love him or hate him openly.

The issue in both is the suspicion that love is not reciprocated, that what seems like love is in fact pretense. The Theognis lines read: Don’t caress me with words, your heart and mind in another place, if you love me and your heart is true. Love me with a pure heart or renounce me, start a fight, hate me openly.

Great Zeppelin tune about a lover who knows he should leave his beloved, however, he knows that he can’t because he loves her so dearly regardless of the pain she causes him. Meleager’s poem G-P = AP 5.24 is almost identical: My soul warns me to flee my lust for Heliodora, knowing the tears, the former jealousies. That’s what it says, but I have no strength to flee. For even as it’s warning me, that shameless soul’s in love

Both the song and the poem mark the end of the relationship and a final farewell. It’s worth comparing Catullus 8, too, esp. the endings of both this poem and the song: the anger there suggests the farewell to love isn’t so final after all.

Catallus’ poem 85 is very short, and contains a very large contradiction. It says “I hate and I love”. Similarly, Three Days Grace describes how they hate everything about a certain person, yet somehow they still love them. Neither authors understand how this is possible, but are frustrated by the situation

The lyrics describes someone who just wants to lie down next to another and be completely submissive to them. The complete surrender of one’s self to the will and ‘law’ of another parallels this same mentality in book 2 poem 4.

“no, come to this place, if ever before you heard my voice singing from afar and listened and, leaving your father’s house, came on the golden” Both the ancient text and the song talk about a lover “following the voice” of another. In the ancient text from Sappho, he says that ‘she’ heard him singing and came to him. In the modern song, however, ‘he’ says “I will follow your voice”, placing it above any guidance of his own.

Britney Spears offers to be a slave for a man, much like how Tibulus see’s relations as a form of slavery. The woman is supposed to treat her husband as a master. This theme is also seen in Lucretius and Ovid.
